Getting Off The Grid - A Month!

Oh Man! yes its been almost a month since I sat down and wrote a discussion about the homestead.

I have not given up on the homestead!

I still have the original plans to get things going here, I just had a few things to deal with and now I am back at it.

While I have always sowed seeds for vegetables inside it is now time to put them out into the garden.

This year I did not, and will not, get the garden area plowed up, no bare dirt as long as a football field. This year I am going to do things differently. I am trying out a few growing methods that will be in my book.

So, on Saturday April 20th. I went out and dug holes in the garden area, 10 of them, and placed a tomato plant in each. Next I took a shovel and flipped dirt, breaking the clods as I went, I got a section about 2 1/2 feet wide by 20 feet long finished. I planted corn, green beans and squash, Yes all of that in the Native American Indian style, the three sisters.

The carrots are still growing in the large containers as well as the onions.

I planted more big boy seed in a container, lavender and thyme in other containers.

Below the deck in front, I planted a small row of sunflower seed.

What is already up and blooming?

All the blackberries are in full bloom!

The sage is looking lively.

Roses, Iris, spiderwort and Azaleas are all pretty and in blooms of red, purple and salmon.

The wild flowers are mostly purple.

All the trees have their leaves, my world is now green!

More updates coming soon! Promise not to stay away so long.

How is life on your homestead? What are you growing?
